A visit to Franciacorta is very well worthwhile for just the wines alone; but once there, wine enthusiasts will have the opportunity to enjoy a lot more than just those famous bubbles.
Row upon row of vines, gently rolling hills, little towns, castles and abbeys, battlemented towers and historic homes set in leafy ancient parkland sculpt the evocative land covered by the Strada del Vino Franciacorta, a land rich in all things cultural. The many markets, trade fairs and exhibitions taking place throughout the year testify to Franciacorta's history as an important centre for trade: the yearly Carnival at Erbusco with its election of the "Re del Gnoc" and the Settimana della Tinca al forno (oven-baked tench) at Clusane d'Iseo held every summer, are just two of its many festivals. Come the Autumn and Franciacorta is awash with dozens of wine events. The Consorzio per la Tutela del Franciacorta (Consortium for the Protection of Franciacorta) organizes the Festival del Franciacorta, a weekend wine tasting event that promotes the wines and land of Franciacorta that includes La Caccia al Tesoro, a Treasure Hunt organized by The Strada del Franciacorta Association giving wine enthusiasts an opportunity to discover the history, art and wines of Franciacorta, leaving no stone unturned.
The renaissance that the traditional Franciacorta wine making techniques is currently enjoying has fuelled the dawning of a new era in gastronomy, and chefs of exceptional talent have also recently emerged on the scene.
